Nonmetal and Coal reports. Purpose: The data in the Part 50
Accident, Injury, and Employment System assists MSHA in determining accident
and employment patterns in the mining industry. This provides support in
decision making regarding the deployment of MSHA resources. Agency
Program: MSHA was charged with the responsibility of protecting the
nations miners under the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977,
Public Law 91-173 as amended by Public Law 95-164.
