Future of Iraq, Local Government Working Group MeetingThe first session of the Future of Iraq project working group on Local Government will convene on December 18-19, 2002 in Washington, DC.
At this session, the State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs will be hosting approximately 15 “Free Iraqis” who have expressed an interest in how local and regional governments function. Specifically, their interactions with a central government; an examination of the separation of powers; and how private institutions, community organizers, and businesses can work with local governments to provide more effective services to the Iraqi people.
