International Seminar on Sri LankaDeputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage will chair the International Seminar on Sri Lanka. The event will be held on Monday, April 14 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the Loy Henderson Conference Room at the Department of State.
Speakers include Sri Lankan Cabinet Minister Milinda Moragoda, Norwegian State Secretary Vidar Helgesen, International Monetary Fund Deputy Managing Director Shigemitsu Sugisaki, Meiko Nishimuzu of the World Bank, and Japanese Government Representative Yasushi Akashi. Thirty-eight governments and 19 international organizations have been invited to attend.
The seminar will provide information on Sri Lanka to potential donor countries and organizations in anticipation of the donors’ conference Japan will host in June. Speakers will discuss the need for development and reconstruction assistance and the peace process in Sri Lanka.
Press are invited to cover the opening remarks, scheduled from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Media representatives will be escorted to the conference room from the 23rd Street lobby of the Department of State. Pre-set time for cameras is 8:30 a.m., and final access from 23rd Street for all press is 9:45 a.m.
Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center, (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as journalists, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver’s license or passport).
