Bishkek's Information Resource Center Participates in a Young Voters Seminar

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
October 26, 2004

On October 26, a week before the U.S. presidential elections, Embassy Bishkek's Information Resource Center (IRC) staff participated in a "U.S. and Kyrgyz Election Systems" seminar. This event was coordinated by a local Internet Access and Training Program (IATC) center and brought together 46 students, NGO representatives, journalists, librarians, religious leaders and Peace Corps volunteers. The IRC assistants gave a Power Point presentation, which explained the historical base and structure of the U.S. election system. Peace Corps volunteers actively participated at the discussion, sharing their own voting experience. All participants received Department of State booklets and journals on elections in English, Russian and Kyrgyz. Photo courtesy U.S. Embassy Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
