Seeds of Peace South Asia Participants Visit State Department

Acting Assistant Secretary Donald Camp and the staff of the Bureau of South Asian Affairs hosted more than three dozen youth leaders from Afghanistan, India and Pakistan participating in the Seeds of Peace conflict resolution program, who visited the Department of State on July 13.  Click on photo for larger image and caption.

The young people are participating in the Seeds of Peace International Camp, a summer exchange program to encourage increased understanding, tolerance, and new friendships among youth from conflict-torn regions. The Bureau of South Asian Affairs funds the South Asians' participation in the camp and subsequent follow-on activity. Last fall, Indian participants from Mumbai visited their Pakistani friends in Lahore for a one-week “alumni” activity coordinated by Seeds of Peace. All Seeds remain in touch after their experience through the internet and other regional programs. During their visit to Washington DC , the Seeds of Peace participants will also meet with officials at the White House and hold discussions with Members of Congress and Senators in their offices.
