Opening of the 'Military Trial' at the ICTR

Today signifies an important day in the annals of international justice. The trial of four former senior officers of the Rwandan armed forces opened today at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Rwanda in Arusha. Colonel Theoneste Bagosora, Lieutenant-Colonel Anatole Nsengiyumva, Major Aloys Ntabakuze and Brigadier-General Gratien Kabiligi face multiple charges for their roles as key military planners of the genocide and crimes against humanity that occurred in Rwanda in 1994. The United States remains steadfast in its support for the ICTR and its pursuit of justice and accountability for the victims of these horrific crimes.
