Bird Banding

bird photo

Bird banding is an important management tool for helping people learn different aspects of birds' lives.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is the agency responsible for monitoring migratory waterfowl  and the U.S. Geological Survey is responsible for issuing permits to organizations and individuals who assist in monitoring other bird populations through bird banding.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service works closely with this agency on bird related issues.

If you have found a bird with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or U.S. Geological Survey band attached to the neck or legs, you may submit your report by calling 1-800-327-2263 or you may go to Band Reporting.
