Ambassador Christopher F. Egan was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as United States Permanent Representative to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France and was confirmed by the Senate on October 26, 2007.
From 1993 to 2007, Ambassador Egan was President and a founding member of Carruth Capital, LLC, which is one of New England's top 10 commercial real estate investment and development firms.
Mr. Egan is active in his community and has served on many public and private boards across Massachusetts. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of Fallon Community Health Plan, a not-for-profit organization that provides health insurance for over 170,000 Massachusetts residents, and was Chairman of the Finance Committee where he oversaw investment strategy for the $230 million operating funds account.
Mr. Egan and his wife, Jean, founded and direct "Break the Cycle of Poverty," a non-profit foundation dedicated to lifting families out of poverty through education. The foundation works to teach economically challenged individuals and families the skills needed to break free of poverty. He is also a Trustee of the Egan Family Foundation.
Mr. Egan is a past board member of MassDevelopment, the state's finance and development authority that provides customized financing and real estate solutions to stimulate economic growth across Massachusetts. As a board member, Mr. Egan helped lead a team of experienced professionals that work with financial institutions and other partners to help businesses, nonprofits, developers, and communities in every region of the state capitalize on smart ideas that create jobs, housing and a strong economy.
Mr. Egan is a past trustee of University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Care, the largest hospital and health care provider in Central Massachusetts. While on the board, Mr. Egan worked to help turn a financially troubled organization into a stable, vibrant institution.
As an active member and public figure in his local community, Ambassador Egan has been a television commentator for numerous networks, as well as an op-ed contributor and a documentarian. In 2004, Ambassador Egan produced a documentary entitled, "Eclipsed by the Sun," a critically acclaimed look at Massachusetts political history.
He has also served as a member of the Central Massachusetts Regional Competitiveness Council, a director of the Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce, and a founder and board member of the Arc of Innovation/I-495 Initiative.
Mr. Egan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Masters degree in Public Administration, with a concentration in leadership, from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He and his wife have three young children and maintain a permanent residence in Boston.
