Watts Bar Golf Tournament Raises More than $50,000 for Area Schools
May 28, 2008
SPRING CITY, Tenn. — TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Plant employees raised more than $50,000 for their Partners in Education schools at the sixth annual benefit golf tournament held earlier this month.
Funds raised at the tournament will be used for equipment and supplies at Watts Bar’s four current PIE schools − Meigs North Elementary, Niota Elementary, Spring City Elementary and Walnut Hill Elementary.
“During the past six years, the Watts Bar Partners in Education Committee has raised more than $175,000 to benefit the children in our partner schools,” said Watts Bar employee Jeff Boggess, who is the PIE coordinator for Meigs North School.
“We want to thank the volunteers who come out every year to make the tournaments successful and all the generous participants,” Boggess said. “It’s amazing how important the funds raised during the tournaments are in allowing the schools to make improvements and purchase needed supplies.”
This year’s tournament was held at Springbrook Golf and Country Club in Niota, Tenn. More than 140 golfers participated in the event.
In addition to the golf tournament, Watts Bar provides other support to the schools during the year including donations of surplus equipment and helping schools with general requests for maintenance and supplies.
