Everglades National Park
Day Programs

Everglades National Park offers two different day program experiences.  Both programs are specific to grade level and location, and each has its own mandatory workshop.  Programs are free of charge, and are best suited for schools within a reasonable driving distance of the park.  As per park policy, one chaperon per 10 students is required for day programs.

Shark Valley Day Program
Grade: 4th
Prerequisite: Shark Valley Day Program Workshop
Maximum Group Size: 59 Students plus teachers and chaperons (not to exceed 6 total)

Students and teachers explore the vast Shark Valley Slough on a narrated open-air tram tour. Alligators, wading birds, turtles and deer are just a few of the residents commonly encountered.

During the two-hour excursion, rangers challenge students to think about the River of Grass in a way they never have before. The trip culminates in a short hike to the observation tower, which helps put the area in better perspective!

Royal Palm Day Program
Grades: 5th & 6th
Prerequisites: Royal Palm Day Program Workshops
Maximum Group Size: 59 students plus teachers and chaperons (not to exceed 6 total)

Rangers lead students and teachers on an exploration of four different habitats by foot: the slough, sawgrass prairie, pinelands and hammock. Alligators, snakes, turtles, fish and birds are commonly observed along the trails.

Students are encouraged to compare the many similarities and differences between the habitats. They are also encouraged to evaluate how the area relates to their own personal lives.
