U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings today issued the following statement to commemorate Catholic Schools Week:

"America's Catholic schools are national treasures. Catholic educators do a tremendous job of educating students of every race and background, including the low-income and minority children who have often been left behind. Their faith in every child's potential pays off: the vast majority of Catholic school students not only graduate from high school, they also go on to college.

"Now that ninety percent of the fastest-growing jobs require postsecondary education, this track record is more important than ever. I commend Catholic educators for their dedication to preparing all students for our global knowledge economy. With their help, we will achieve our national imperative of providing every child with a quality education by 2014."
