One Year Anniversary Of Disaster Declaration

DENTON, Texas -- Wednesday, January 10, marks the one year anniversary of the Presidential disaster declaration for Oklahoma residents and business owners affected by the wildfires that began on November 27, 2005.

The presidential declaration made individual assistance available to affected individuals and businesses in the counties of Bryan, Canadian, Carter, Choctaw, Cotton, Creek, Garvin, Hughes, Lincoln, Logan, Mayes, McIntosh, Murray, Muskogee, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Okmulgee, Osage, Payne, Pittsburg, Pontotoc, Pottawatomie, Seminole, Stephens, Tulsa, and Wagoner.

All 77 Oklahoma counties were designated eligible for public assistance.

Disaster Recovery Summary:

FEMA manages federal response and recovery efforts following any national incident, initiates mitigation activities and manages the National Flood Insurance Program. FEMA works closely with state and local emergency managers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and other first responders. FEMA became part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on March 1, 2003.
