1.
Episcopalian parishes, deaneries, and individuals in the U.S. will click
through on the AMP Web site to donate to specific parishes. 2.
AMP purchases insecticide-treated bed nets (ITN’s) and anti-malaria
medications. 3.
Anglican congregations in Southern Africa will serve as central
distribution points for nets and medications, as well as centers for
education on malaria prevention and treatment How
does AMP work? Through
the Episcopal Church in the U.S., we are coordinating with the churches of
the Anglican Communion in Swaziland and Mozambique, and specifically with
the Mothers' Union, a social institution of great power and credibility,
to create a low cost distribution network that empowers poor village women
to help roll back malaria. We are training mothers in African
villages to do early diagnosis of malaria symptoms. Two studies published
in Lancet have proven this results in a ten-fold reduction in mortality
(down 30 to 40 percent) compared to using community health workers. We
will be using sophisticated mapping with Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) to document our impact. We are completely transparent about all
costs, and have an innovative approach to Web-based donor development
through telling stories of individual mothers and children, and connecting
them with donors in local churches in the U.S. How
is AMP different?
Our motto: One child, one net, one life. |
