National Information

The Region 3 Electronics program is a collaborative effort between EPA Region 3 and the Mid-Atlantic States to increase the amount of residential electronics that is diverted from disposal (landfill and incineration) towards recycling and reuse, and to expand the use of environmentally-sound end-of-life management practices within the general public. Results will be measured based on the following:

The Region 3 Electronics program began in 2000 with the Mid-Atlantic eCycling Pilot. The Pilot ran from October 2001 to December 2002. The goal of the Pilot was to develop an economically and environmentally sustainable collection, reuse, and recycling system for electronics based on shared responsibility among business (electronics manufacturers and retailers), government, and consumers.

EPA's Region 3 office is also focusing resources on the Federal Electronics Challenge (FEC). exit EPA graphic As an FEC Partner, the Region 3 is committed to purchasing greener electronic products, reducing the impacts of electronic products during use, and managing obsolete electronics in an environmentally safe way.
