UC Resources for Counselors and Educators
The University of California is involved in the
full spectrum of California education, from kindergarten through
college and beyond to lifelong learning. The following UC resources
and programs are designed to assist K-12 teachers and administrators
statewide in fulfilling a shared commitment to improving our schools
and educating our children.
Professional
Development for Teachers
The largest professional development enterprise in California’s
educational system, UC teaches the teachers through California Subject
Matter Projects and California Professional Development Institutes,
which conducted programs for more than 80,000 teachers during 2000-01
through intensive, standards-based institutes and other programs
held throughout California.

Teacher
Preparation and Certification
UC recruits, trains and supports K-12 educators at each of its eight
general campuses, and offers multiple routes to teacher credentialing,
including traditional and alternative certification programs.

Edward Teller Education Center - This Lawrence Livermore

teacher professional development programs and enrichment
programs for K-12 students in the Central Valley.

With its California Teach program, UC will put 1,000 new science and math teachers annually into California classrooms by 2010.
MESA named among top 5 innovation leaders
The California Mathematics,
Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) program has been named
one of the five most innovative public programs in the country.
MESA won the award following a nationwide competition sponsored
by the Ford Foundation, the Kennedy School of Government and the
Council for Excellence in Government.
