Our mission
Recognizing that a child’s health and well-being are essential to optimal learning and development, the Child Care Health Program works to ensure the health and well-being of children in the early care and learning community through consultation, education and advocacy.
Who we are
We are a multidisciplinary team of public health nurses, nutritionists, health educators and a child psychologist and provide on-site consultation, training and educational resources for child care providers to address a broad range of health, developmental and safety concerns. These include communicable disease, environmental health, child development, nutrition and food safety, mental health, emergency and disaster preparedness, overweight prevention and other important health concerns.
Services available
- Consultation
Public health nurses, nutritionist s, health educators and a child psychologist are available to consult with child care programs on a wide range of health and safety concerns.
- Identification and referral
The consultation team works with child care providers and families to identify children with health and developmental needs and refer families to appropriate services in their communities.
- Education and training
Classes and Saturday conferences are offered on a variety of health, developmental and safety topics. We offer our award winning emergency and disaster preparedness training several times each year. We are a STARS approved training organization.
- Educational resources for child care providers and parents
We develop model policies, forms and care plans that are available to child care providers to adapt to meet each program’s needs. (link to model policies and forms) Our quarterly newsletter is available to child care providers and other early learning professions. (link to newsletters). We create educational materials for providers and parents on a variety of child health topics.
