New Publication on Greater Sage-Grouse Population Trends: The Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) has completed a peer-reviewed revision of a portion of its 2004 Conservation Assessment of the greater sage-grouse titled: Greater Sage-Grouse Populations Trends: An Analysis of Lek Count Databases 1965-2007.
Conservation Status of the Greater Sage-Grouse to be Reviewed: The Fish and Wildlife Service is initiating a status review of the Greater sage-grouse to determine if the species should be protected under the Endangered Species Act throughout its range or any significant portion of its range. A public comment period will be open until May 27, 2008 to allow all interested parties an opportunity to provide information regarding the status of the species.

Greater Sage-Grouse Not Warranted for Listing as Endangered or Threatened
Petition to List the Greater Sage-Grouse -- What's next? The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has received three petitions to list the greater sage-grouse as threatened or endangered throughout its range. The Service has found that the petitions provide sufficient information that listing may be warranted and will begin a status review of the species. This is the first step in the process to determine whether or not the greater sage-grouse should receive protection under the Endangered Species Act.
