Daniel Cassidy to Serve as Regional Representative for Education Department

U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige today announced that Daniel J. Cassidy will serve as the Secretary's Regional Representative for Region II. With headquarters in Brooklyn, Region II includes the states of New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

"I am pleased to have Daniel Cassidy as a part of our team helping to bring accountability to our public school system," Paige said. "Working together with parents, educators, states, and community leaders, we can ensure a quality education for all our children and make sure no child is left behind."

As the Secretary's Regional Representative, Cassidy will serve as the Department's liaison to state and local education agencies, public and private schools, colleges and universities and elected representatives of local and state government organizations.

Prior to joining the Education Department, Cassidy served as the director of education policy and public affairs for the Office of Mayor Bret Schundler in Jersey City, N.J. In this capacity, Cassidy helped coordinate the application and establishment of one of New Jersey's first charter schools, the Jersey City Golden Door Charter School. Previously, Cassidy worked as congressional liaison in the Office of National Drug Control Policy from 1992 - 1993 and served at the U.S. Department of Education in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement from 1989 -1991.

A native of Cold Spring Harbor, New York, Cassidy graduated from the Catholic University of America in 1984.
