October 16 – A new, first-of-its-kind online safety library shows how “lessons learned” from past famous airplane accidents can help prevent future disasters.

Runway Safety Lights Expanded Nationwide
October 16 – The agency awarded a contract to Sensis Corporation to install runway status lights at 22 major U.S. airports. The lights will improve runway safety by warning pilots when it's unsafe to cross or enter a runway.

October 3 – Eight additional colleges and universities have been selected to participate in the Air Traffic Collegiate Training Initiative (CTI) program, which prepares and trains students interested in a career as a controller.
