| Miami, FLThe Office of Foreign Missions' Miami Regional Office opened March 2003 in its present location, and is the newest of OFM's regional network of offices. OFM Miami provides services and liaison to foreign officials and honorary consuls who are accredited by the U.S. Department of State to work in the southeast states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. OFM regional offices enforce the Foreign Missions Act (22 USC 4301-4316) as well as the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, and work extensively with local, state, and federal government agencies in matters affecting foreign consular representation, immunities and privileges, and consular notification by police agencies in the event of arrest, detention, or death of foreign nationals. The Miami Regional Office is in the process of establishing a range of programs for the foreign career consular community, including diplomatic tax exemptions, diplomatic customs clearance, as well as diplomatic motor vehicle registration and drivers licensing.
