ROMAN 24-Hour Trend Monitor

ROMAN has been designed for use by fire weather professionals and others requiring access to current fire weather conditions around the nation. Comments and suggestions for improvement are encouraged and can be sent to atmos-mesowest@lists.utah.edu.

The 24-Hour Trend Monitor provides access to current and 24 h trend (change) information for all available weather stations within a user-defined radius of the point of interest (placename, zipcode, lat/lon coordinate, or fire) for any given time (e.g. current or historical data). For zipcodes this point is the geographic center of the zipcode area. The page reloads every 10 minutes when displaying current data. The Trend Monitor displays the most recent observation (or the observation preceeding the historical date/time) and the changes from the observation 24 hours before. Longer records of individual stations are also available by clicking on a station, then clicking on 'Past Data' in the left hand menu.

Settings

The user can change the settings as follows:

The number of hours for which 24-hour trend data is wanted (default = 2)
Network type: RAWS (default), NWS/FAA and RAWS, or all networks
Search radius (in miles) from the point of interest (default = 25)

Time

The user can change the valid time by entering an hour, day, month, and year and clicking on "Change Time". Doing this will:

change the title to "Historic 24-Hour Trend Monitor"
make a link appear that will let the user reset the Trend Monitor to the current time
change the links to the Station Weather Display so as to display weater data from the historic time

Tabular Format

The first column contains the station's name and identifier. Long names are truncated.
The second column contains the station's elevation and network name.
The third column contains the distance and direction of the station from the point of interest.
The fourth column contains the UTC and local time of the observations.
The next six columns contain the current reading of the weather variable followed by the 24 hour change. In the case of wind direction, the current value is given followed by the value 24 hours ago. The variables are Temp: temperature (F), DewT: dew point temperature(F), RH: relative humidity(%), Dir: wind direction, Spd: wind speed (mph) and Gust: peak wind or gust (mph).

Stations can be ordered alphabetically by name, or by elevation, or by proximity to the point of interest (default) by clicking on the appropriate link at the top of the tablular data.
When looking at historical data, the Trend Monitor will display all possible stations, even those that are currently inactive.
