Note for users of Very Old or Very New Linux
The HEASOFT pre-compiled Linux binaries were built under Scientific Linux
4.0, using the GNU 3.4.6 compilers. Since these compilers utilize
a set of libraries
(libstdc++.so.5, libg2c.so.0, and libgcc_s.so) which are not all available
in the GNU 2.x or 4.x series of compilers, the HEASOFT
binaries may not run under very old Linux (e.g. Red Hat 7.x or earlier,
which shipped with GNU 2.x compilers) or very new Linux (which may ship
with GNU 4.x compilers) unless a GNU compiler installation in the
3.1.x -> 3.4.x series exists elsewhere in your LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
To accomodate users who do not have the appropriate set of GNU libraries
installed already, we have created a patch for our Linux binaries which
contains the necessary compiler libraries mentioned above. To avoid
conflicts with other programs, this patch should only be used if
an appropriate GNU compiler installation is not already available
elsewhere on your machine or network.
