HXD/GSO Background Files

For Version 1.X processed Data

HXD/GSO non X-ray background (NXB) files for data processed using version 1.2/1.3 are available from this page at ISAS/JAXA. Files for guest observer observation are labeled with the 9-digit sequence number. Those for recent observations should become available with a delay of about a month after the processed data are distributed to the guest observers.

For the details of how the background files have been generated, and the estimated accuracy of these files, please read:

Usage

  1. The event rate of the GSO background files has not been artifitially inflated by a factor of 10 (unlike those of the PIN background files).
  2. Users must correct the dead time of the GSO background spectral files as well as the observed spectral file.
  3. The background event files do not include the Cosmic X-ray Background. However, the CXB is less than 0.1% of the total background rate, and thus it is negligible.
  4. The accuracy is expected to be as good as +/-3% of the averaged background. Observers are strongly recommended to verify the reliability of background, by comparing the model spectrum and light curve with the "earth occultated data" which can be obtained using the condition of "ELV<-5." Due to the change of intruementa set-up, the GSO background rate is sometimes different from the model significantly during the period 2006 Mar 19 through 2006 May 29 of 2005/3/19 -- 2006/5/29.

Also during this period, the data transfer rate in the instrument sometimes saturated. Observers are advised to elimiante sasturated intervals from the data.
