English Access Microscholarship Program

The U.S. State Department's English Access Microscholarship Program provides a foundation of English language skills to non-elite, 14 - 18 year old students worldwide through afterschool classes and intensive summer learning activities. Access students gain an appreciation for American culture and democratic values, increase their ability to participate successfully in the socio-economic development of their countries, and gain the ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. exchange and study programs. Since its inception in 2004, 32,000 students in over 50 countries have participated in the Access Program.
The countries eligible to participate in the FY08 English Access Microscholarship Program are: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burma, Cambodia, Chad, Chile, China, Cyprus, Democratic Republic of the Congo, East Timor, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gaza, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mexico, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, West Bank, and Yemen.
