Banks increasingly use computers to reduce costs and offer additional services to customers; however, technology and the trend toward mergers and consolidations have resulted in fewer banking jobs. This article examines the role of technology in reducing employment is analyzed, along with the trend toward mergers and consolidations and competition from non-bank institutions.
