The Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) program consists of two surveys, the quarterly Interview Survey and the Diary Survey, that provide information on the buying habits of American consumers, including data on their expenditures, income, and consumer unit (families and single consumers) characteristics. The survey data are collected for the Bureau of Labor Statistics by the U.S. Census Bureau.
The most recent data tables are for 2006, and were made available on October 26, 2007. See Tables Created by BLS and Economic News Releases sections on the CE home page for current data tables and news release.
Consumer Expenditures in 2006
Average annual expenditures per consumer unit, which is similar to a household,
rose 4.3 percent in 2006, following an increase of 6.9 percent in 2005, according to
results from the Consumer Expenditure Survey released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics
of the U.S. Department of Labor. The increase in expenditures from 2005 to 2006 was
larger than the 3.2 percent rise in the annual average Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) over
this period. More...
