Oregon taxpayers can do a lot of things to speed up the time it takes to receive their tax refunds. Here´s how: File early In some years, over 75 percent of all Oregon taxpayers get a tax refund—and many wait until the last four weeks before April 15 to file. The single most important thing you can do to get your refund faster is to file as early as possible. Note: We will begin processing all four return types (40S, 40, 40N, and 40P) of 2007 returns by January 1, 2008. File electronically Filing your tax return electronically can speed up your refund. In 2007, taxpayers who filed electronically received their refunds in about 10-12 days. For more information on Electronic Filing, click here. Type or legibly print Taxpayers who filed electronically for tax year 2006 or used tax preparation software won´t receive a printed booklet for tax year 2007. Make sure your name, address, phone number, and Social Security number(s) are readable. Double-check your math Math mistakes slow the processing of your return which slows down your refund. Checking your calculations for simple math errors and accuracy is time well spent. Sign your return You would be surprised how many people forget to sign their return. The absence of a signature can slow down your refund considerably. If the return is a joint return, be sure both spouses sign the return. It´s good to always double check for the correct signature(s) in the correct place(s). Attach your W-2(s) and 1099(s) Be sure to attach to the front of your Oregon return copies of your W-2s and 1099s showing Oregon tax withheld. The W-2s and 1099s not only report your earnings but also verify the amount of state tax withheld during the year. Note: Be sure to keep copies of all W-2s and 1099s along with your return for your records. Last revised January 25, 2008.
