The Creative Industry in Hawaii

This report develops a definition and estimation methodology for measuring the economic activity generated by the creative economy in Hawaii. The total direct jobs, output, and earnings in the creative economy are estimated for the state as well as for each of the four counties. It should be noted, however, that the total economic impacts of the creative economy should be much greater than what is reported in this report because the indirect positive impacts of the creative economy on rest of the economy are not included in this report. Moreover, since the definition of the creative economy is different from state to state, the report does not compare the relative size of the creative economy in Hawaii with that in other states in the U.S. The report also provides a review of selected definitions of the creative economy found in the literature.
