Abstract North America's longest cable-stay span bridge is under construction to connect the City of Charleston with the Town of Mount Pleasant along US Highway 17. The signature diamond-tower design features the latest in seismic considerations with eight-lanes of north/south vehicular traffic and a shared pedestrian/bicycle lane overlooking the Charleston harbor. This website follows the progress of the construction, offering notice of work zones and traffic delays. The visitor can also find a history of the earlier bridges and the reason that this bridge is needed. There is an explanation of the design choice and the construction of the bridge.
