Title Modernizing rail transit for today's city
Record ID 12789
Corporate Creator American Public Transit Association
Publication Date 19790600
Abstract Nine cities which have a history of rail service are discussed in terms of their rebuilding and upgrading of rapid-transit and light-rail systems as part of overall revitalization efforts. Rail modernization takes place in three general categories--urban and community development projects; line extensions, new cars and station modernization; and new technology. Examples show how each transit improvement represents part of a coordinated metropolitan program to provide a higher level of services to residents. The cities covered are New York, Montreal, Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Cleveland, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and Chicago.
