Abstract After a decade of studies and careful planning, construction of the new US 20 bridge through the historic Iowa River Greenbelt is underway. The Greenbelt is a living treasure, a precious remnant of Iowa's past. US 20, one of Iowa's main channels of commerce, is being widened to meet the demands of a new century. The aim is to have these two resources exist side by side in harmony both during construction, and after the bridge opens in 2003. Construction of the US 20 bridge is being documented on this web site. Watch the progress of construction, read technical documents and learn about special design and construction methods being used to minimize environmental impact on the Greenbelt.
