Abstract The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides consumers with the Motor Vehicle Defects Recall Campaigns database of motor vehicle recalls due to safety defects. Recall campaigns result from identified component failures that present a risk to highway safety, and from non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Manufacturers of motor vehicles, motor vehicle equipment and tires are required by law to notify the agency when they are about to initiate a recall campaign. Data available include 1) notices of vehicle, tire and equipment recalls by make, model, and year and 2) number of units potentially affected by each recall. Visit the Motor Vehicle Defects Recall Database.
