- TIDS is an acronym for Time Insertion Distribution Systems,
Model 8413, manufactured by TRAK Microwave Corporation.The TIDS generates
and distributes a unique time code which contains both real time and simulated
time. The TIDS supports up to 98 remote Time Code Translators (TCTs). Timing
inputs from a master clock are fed to the Time Insertion Unit (TIU) where
the TIDS code is generated. The TIDS code contains both real time and simulated
time. The TIU uses inputs of 1 PPS, 1 MPPS, and BCD time code from the
master clock to produce output time resolved to be better than 1 microsecond.
The TIU uses triple redundant logic and a majority voting scheme to generate
the TIDS code. The Monitor and Control Unit (MCU) of the TIDS receives
setup data from the IEEE 488 bus or from an RS-232 local terminal to present
simulated time and command individual TCTs to read either real time or
simulated time. The MCU also handles status data from the remote TCTs,
the TIU and the ancillary units located in the TIDS rack.
