  • Employee benefits - If you are hired at the Department of Human Services, you will become a member of an innovative department that provides important services to Oregon families and individuals. Along with competitive salaries, employees receive excellent benefit packages that include:

    • Membership in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). PERS provides one of the best public-retirement programs in the nation with several plans to fit your needs when you finish your state career.
    • The option to participate in the Oregon Savings Growth Plan. This plan provides an opportunity to defer part of your salary each month and choose from among several investment options.
    • A minimum of $5,000 in guaranteed basic life insurance coverage, with the option to purchase additional coverage.
    • From 12 to 26 days of vacation leave per year (based on full-time employment), depending on total years of service with the State of Oregon. Vacation time may be accrued up to 250 hours (350 hours for management service employees). Additional vacation accrual rates may be available through the collective bargaining agreements.
    • 8 hours of sick leave per month, with unlimited accrual (based on full-time employment). The State of Oregon also provides Family Medical Leave.
    • Personal leave - Each fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) employees earn personal leave hours depending on union representation that can be used at the employee's discretion.
    • Nine paid holidays annually.
    • Access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which offers confidential counseling services for you and/or your dependents.
    • Benefit dollars to spend on medical and dental insurance, and basic life insurance for yourself and/or your dependents.
    • In addition, employees may purchase on their own any or all of the following:
      • Short- and long-term disability insurance.
      • Accidental death and dismemberment coverage.
      • Additional life insurance.
      • Dependent care.
      • Long-term care insurance.

Note: additional benefit options may be available to union-represented employees.
