Call for High-Impact Nanoscience & Nanotechnology User Proposals

Next Deadline: March 8, 2013

The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory solicits proposals for user-initiated nanoscience research three times per year (nominally in March, July, and November).  The CNM nanoscience and nanotechnology research program provides users with access to a broad range of capabilities for design, synthesis, characterization, and theory & modeling in order to significantly advance the understanding of nanoscale phenomena and develop functional nanoscale systems. Access is provided at no cost to users for research that is in the public domain and intended for publication.

Scientifically high-impact proposals are sought within CNM's cross-cutting theme of "Energy and Information Transduction at the Nanoscale" that is underpinned by three critical pillars in Materials Discovery, Manipulation, and Visualization.

Detailed descriptions about the six CNM scientific research groups that support these themes are available. Prospective users are invited and strongly encouraged to contact CNM staff to discuss their proposal ideas and learn more about the specific capabilities of interest to them.

Review all the steps for becoming a user and guidelines for submission of a CNM user research proposal. New users will be directed to register for an ID number to access the online proposal submission process. Submit your proposal via the online proposal system.

Approved projects will be granted access to CNM facilities for a maximum of one year.

User activity reports are required upon completion of approved projects.

Cost recovery rates are charged for work that is not intended for the public domain.

National DOE user facilities do not provide direct research funding or travel funding to users.

Queries can be directed to the CNM User Office.
