RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL ORDERS

How to Place a Request for Approval to Order Unsealed Radioactive Material

  1. Log on to our website: www.rss.usda.gov/rsms
  2. Enter your User ID and password.  (If you do not have one, please send a request to RMSmail@da.usda.gov)
  3. On the right side of the screen, under Routine Tasks, click on the link Place an Unsealed Request.
  4. Click on the order link corresponding to the isotope you would like to order.
  5. Complete the following fields:  chemical compound, detailed compound class, catalog number, activity; then select the ADD button.  The system will notify you if your order has been approved.
  1. Complete the remaining fields:  purchase order number, purchase date, vendor.
  2. The system will ask, “What output do you want for the order?”  You have the option to email your approval to anyone (technician, procurement clerk, etc), print the approval form and/or print the RSS-83.
  3. Your order processing is complete.   Be sure to log in to document receipt of your shipment when it arrives.

NOTE: Departmental Regulation 5013-6, issued February 22, 2000, by the Office of Procurement, Property, and Emergency Preparedness, prohibits use of purchase cards or convenience checks for purchasing radioactive materials.
