Oberstar Supports Passage of Major Energy Bill
Washington DC – Congressman Jim Oberstar says the energy bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives tonight, is “a major step in the right direction.”  “This bill takes us beyond the futile ‘drill-drill-drill’ mentality and sets us truly on the path of energy independence,” said Oberstar.

Oberstar Announces Public Broadcasting Grants

Washington DC - Public broadcasting in Duluth and Grand Marais is getting a boost from two federal grants, Congressman Jim Oberstar announced today.  The National Telecommunications Information Administration is awarding $454,000 to WDSE TV in Duluth to help purchase new high-definition cameras and field equipment.  WTIP Radio in Grand Marais will receive a grant of $27,000 to install new satellite equipment to begin providing programming from services like National Public Radio.

Brainerd Airport Receives FAA Grant

Washington DC – A federal grant will help the Brainerd Lake Regional Airport repair and rehabilitate its runway.  Today, Congressman Jim Oberstar announced that the airport will receive a grant of $1,087,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Oberstar Champions Bridge Plan

Washington DC - Today, Congressman Jim Oberstar testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on the need to pass legislation to address the nation's aging and structurally deficient bridges.  In July, Oberstar passed a bill to begin addressing this issue in the House.  Follow this link to read and listend to his testimony beofre the Senate committee.

House Votes to Halt Mexican Truck Program

Washington DC -The House of Representatives has sent a loud, clear message to the Bush Administration to terminate its pilot program allowing Mexico-domiciled trucks full access to U.S. roads.  By a vote of 395 to 18, the House today approved H.R. 6630, a bill to require a cross-border trucking pilot program initiated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) on September 6, 2007, to terminate immediately.
