| Seed sampling |
|
Official sampling of seed commodities is provided by the Commodity Inspection Division to:
- meet the demands of importing countries that require testing for Phytosanitary Certificates and various other export requirements.
- provide unbiased representative samples for testing seed quality and condition.
- provide authorized samples for testing of seed for Endophyte tags, Sod Quality tags, and ISTA Orange tags.

| Seed licenses |
|
Retail seed dealer license
Any person who offers or sells agricultural or vegetable seed directly to the consumer or user for planting must have a retail seed dealer license. A retail seed dealers license is available through the Oregon Department of Agriculture for $40.00.

Wholesale seed dealer license.
Any person who sells, offers or holds for sale, agricultural or vegetable seed to retailers, distributors, brokers or other wholesalers for resale must hold a wholesale seed dealer license. Wholesale seed dealer licenses are available through the Oregon Department of Agriculture for $400.00.

| Treatment/blend verification |
|
The Commodity Inspection Division offers official verification of seed treatments, blends, and mixes to facilitate the movement of commodities in the domestic and international markets. Official letters of treatment verification are provided to fulfill export, contract or customer requirements where there is a need for an independent third party or official government review of the seed treatment/blend process.

| Witness of fumigation |
|
The Commodity Inspection Division offers official verification of the fumigation of seed to facilitate the movement of commodities in the domestic and international markets. Official letters of treatment verification are provided to fulfill export, contract or customer requirements where there is a need for an independent third party or official government review of the seed fumigation process.

|
The Commodity Inspection Division offers official verification of seed package counts and weights to facilitate the movement of commodities in the domestic and international markets. Official letters of seed package count and/or weight are provided to fulfill export, contract or customer requirements where there is a need for an independent third party or official government review of a seed lot or shipment.

Payment for ag commodities (ORS 576.700)
The Commodity Inspection Division administers the Oregon statutes for payment of agricultural commodities when a licensed wholesale seed dealer fails to pay a seed grower as required by law.

| Issues seed tags |
|
Endophyte and sod quality tags
The CID administers Oregon's sod quality seed and endophyte forage seed tagging programs. Annually more than 380,000 tags are issued to certify seed is free of endophyte fungus, and/or verifies that grass seed meets Oregon sod quality seed standards. Both programs are used as marketing tools to increase the market price of Oregon seed.
