This is the latest date in the season that a 90°F temperature or higher was reached at the Greenville-Spartanburg airport station, breaking the previous record by 4 days which occurred on July 4, 1979.
3. At Anchorage, AK, a new monthly record for the month of July was set for maximum temperature when the temperature rose to 84°F on July 9, 2003. This breaks the previous monthly record of 83°F which was set on July 11, 1953.
4. At Show Low, AZ, a new all time record was set for maximum temperature on July 9, 2003. A high temperature of 99°F was reached breaking the previous record of 98°F which last occurred on July 28, 1995.
5. At Pueblo, CO, a new all time record was set for maximum temperature on July 13, 2003. A high temperature of 109°F was reached breaking the previous record of 108°F which was set on June 29, 1990.
6. At Savoonga, AK, a new all time maximum temperature record was set on July 14, 2003. The temperature reached 75°F breaking the previous record by 3 degrees of 72°F which was set just the day before on July 13, 2003.
7. At Phoenix, AZ, a new all time high minimum temperature record was set on July 15, 2003. The low temperature of 96°F was recorded breaking the previous all time high minimum temperature record of 93°F which was set on June 27th 1990, July 20, 1989 and July 14, 2003.
8. At Salt Lake City, UT, a new all time high minimum temperature record was set on July 16, 2003. The low temperature of 80°F was recorded breaking the previous all time high minimum temperature record of 79°F which was set on July 10, 1956.
9. At Denali National Park, AK, a new monthly low maximum temperature record for the month of July was set on July 17, 2003. The temperature only rose to 42°F, breaking the previous record of 44°F which was set on July 20, 1970.
10. At Walker Field in Grand Junction, CO, a new record was set for the number of 100+°F days for a single month on July 22, 2003. July 22nd was the seventeenth day of triple digit temperatures in July. The former record was 14 days and was set in July of 2002 .
11. At Walker Field in Grand Junction, CO a new record was set for the number of consecutive 100+°F days on July 21, 2003. July 22nd marks the 12th consecutive day, breaking the previous record of 10 days which occurred July 7 - 16, 2002.
12. At Cheyenne, WY a new record was set for the number of consecutive 90+°F days on July 21, 2003. July 21st marks the 10th consecutive day, breaking the previous record of 9 days which was last tied in 2002.
13. At Cheyenne, WY a new record was set for the number of 90+°F days to occur in the month of July on July 23, 2003. July 23rd marks the 19th day, breaking the previous record of 18 days which occurred in July of 1936 and 1966.
14. At Boise, ID a new record was set for the number of consecutive days with temperatures above 100°F on July 23, 2003. July 23rd marks the 9th consecutive day that temperatures have been 100+°F, this breaks the previous record of 7 consecutive days set in 1960.
15. At Salt Lake City, UT, a new record was set for the number of consecutive 100+°F days on July 24, 2003. July 24th marks the 10th consecutive day, breaking the previous record of 9 days which occurred July 14 - 22, 1960.
16. At Bakersfield, CA, the all time high minimum temperature record of 86°F was reached on July 29, 2003. This ties the all time high minimum for Bakersfield, which last occurred on August 10, 1978, and broke the high minimum temperature for the date of 82°F, which was set back in 1980.
17. At Helena, MT, two new monthly temperature records were set for July; the average temperature for the month reached 76.3°F which was 1.4°F warmer than the previous record in July 1985; also the new July record for the warmest average high temperature was set at 92.5°F.
18. At Lewistown, MT, it was the second warmest July on record; the average temperature for the month reached 70.7°F, which is 1.8°F cooler than the record of 72.5°F set in July 1936.
19. At Bozeman, MT, it was the second warmest July on record; the average temperature for the month at Gallatin Field was 70.9°F, which is 0.1°F cooler than the record of 71°F set in July 1966.
20. At Winnemucca, NV, the average temperature for the month was 75.6°F, or 3.6°F warmer than normal. This was the second warmest July on record.
21. At Salt Lake City, UT, July 2003 was the hottest month on record. The average temperature was 83.4°F above normal, which shatters the old record of 81.9°F set in July 2002. The average monthly low temperature was 68.8°F, which breaks the record for the warmest average monthly low temperature of 67.8°F set in July 2002.
22. At Phoenix, AZ, July 2003 was the hottest July on record, and the hottest month all time. The average temperature was 97.6°F which is 4.8°F above normal. The old record was 97.4°F set in July 1989. The average high temperature during July was 108.7°F, which is the second hottest on record, while the average low temperature for the month was 86.6°F, which was warmest for any month on record.
23. At Reno, NV, the average temperature for the month was 79.2°F, or 5.5°F above normal. This was the warmest July on record. This beat the previous record of 78.4°F set in July 2002.
24. At Missoula, MT, the average temperature for the month was 72.7°F or 5.8°F above normal. This was the third hottest July on record.
25. At Denver, CO, the average temperature for the month was 76.9°F, or 3.5°F above normal. This was the fourth warmest July on record. The warmest July, and the hottest month on record in Denver, was 77.8°F set in 1934.
26. At Sacramento, CA, several monthly temperature records were set and are as follows:
- the average temperature for the month was 81.6°F, or 4.7°F above normal; this tied the previous record for the warmest month all time, and for the warmest July, set in 1988
- the average minimum temperature for the month was 65.1°F, or 3.7°F above normal, which broke the previous record of 64.1°F set in 1996

28. At Riverton, WY, this was the warmest July on record; the average temperature for the month was 76.3°F, which broke the previous record of 74.9°F set in 2002.
29. At Laramie, WY, this month tied the warmest July on record; the average temperature for the month was 67.8°F, which equaled the previous record set in 1954.
30. At Cheyenne, WY, several monthly temperature records were set and are as follows:
- this was the all time warmest month on record; the average temperature for the month was 75.1°F, which broke the previous record of 74.5°F set in July 1966
- the average daily high temperature for the month was 90.9°F, which broke the previous record of 89.5°F set in 1966
- there were a total of 23 days with high temperatures of 90°F or greater, which broke the old record of 18 days set in 1966
- there were a total of 10 consecutive days with high temperatures of 90°F or greater, from July 12 through July 21, which broke the old record of 9 straight days set in 2002
31. At Las Vegas, NV, it was the hottest July on record, and the hottest month all time. The average temperature at McCarran International Airport was 94.8°F which broke the previous record for July of 94.5°F set in July 2002.

Walker Field was 84.1°F, which is 7.3°F above the normal, breaking the previous record of 82.5°F set in July 1934.
1. At Lincoln, IL a new monthly rainfall record was set when 4.78 inches of rain fell on July 10, 2003. This is the highest one day rainfall total for the month of July. The previous one day rainfall record for July is 4.64 inches which was set in July of 1990.
2. At the Akron Canton Airport, OH, July was the wettest month on record. A total of 12.55 inches of rain fell during the month breaking the previous record of 11.43 inches which was set in July of 1958.
3. At the Youngstown Airport, OH, it was the wettest July on record. A total of 10.40 inches of rain fell during the month breaking the previous record of 9.68 inches which was set in July of 1992. This was also the second wettest month on record.
4. At Fairbanks, AK, two new precipitation records were set on July 27, 2003 and are as follows:
- a total of 2.56 inches of rain fell on July 26-27, 2003 setting a new record for the month of July for any 24-hour period, breaking the previous 24-hour record of 2.16 inches which occurred on July 19-20, 1948
- a total of 3.43 inches of rain fell during July 26-27, 2003 setting a new record for the month of July for the highest two-day total, the previous two-day record of 2.81 inches was set during July 19-20, 1948
- also, monthly rainfall totaled 5.96 inches, which is the greatest July rainfall on record; the previous record was 5.39 inches in July 1922
5. At Long Beach Airport, CA, a new monthly rainfall record was set when 0.27 inches of rain fell on July 30, 2003. This is the highest one day rainfall total for the month of July, breaking the previous record of 0.18 inches set on July 23, 1986.
6. At Asheville, NC, it was the wettest July on record and the second wettest month on record for July 2003. A total of 10.91 inches of rain fell during the month, breaking the previous record of 9.92 inches which was set in July of 1982. The wettest month on record in Asheville is August 1967, when 11.28 inches of rain fell.
7. At Amarillo, TX, it was the second driest July on record for July 2003. Rainfall for the month totaled just 0.09 of an inch, which was observed on one day (11th). The driest July on record occurred in 2001 when only 0.04 of an inch was measured.
8. At Wichita Falls, TX, it was the driest July on record for July 2003, no rainfall was recorded at all, which broke the previous record of a trace that was set in July of 1943, 1999, and 2001.
9. At Billings, MT, it was the driest July on record for July 2003, with only a trace of rain measured breaking the previous record of 0.04 of an inch which was set in July of 1988.
10. At Kearney, NE, it was the driest July on record for July 2003, with only 0.11 of an inch of rain measured breaking the previous record of 0.13 of an inch that was set in July of 1997.
11. At Kansas City, MO, it was the driest July on record for July 2003, with only 0.12 of an inch of rain recorded this breaks the previous record of 0.25 of an inch which occurred in July of 1975.
12. At Medford, OR, another driest July occurred in July of 2003. No rainfall was recorded at all, which ties the previous record of 0.00 which occurred in 1998 and in earlier years.
13. At Ruidoso, NM, it was the driest July on record for July 2003. Only a total of 0.54 of an inch of rain fell breaking the previous record of 1.16 inches which occurred in July of 1966.
14. At Vero Beach, FL, it was the driest July on record for July 2003, 1.30 inches of rain fell breaking the previous record of 1.69 inches which was set in July of 1961.
