Weekend Rainfall Helped With Dry Conditions
Weekend Rains Brought Relief
Some areas saw significant amounts
Weekend rains were significant in western Indiana, with the highest amounts falling near the Illinois border. This rain was significant enough that it may result in easing of drought conditions in that area. Areas from Indianapolis and to the east did not experience rainfall that was nearly as heavy.
Rainfall estimates in the western and southwestern portions of Central Indiana indicate that between 1 and 3 inches of rain fell across a fairly large area. Areas from Indianapolis and to the southeast were not as rainy, with around a half to three quarters of an inch in Indianapolis, with less than a quarter of an inch falling in some areas.
It will take a few days to determine the complete impacts of the rainfall in terms of lessening the drought. It is likely that drought relief was most pronounced in west central Indiana, but less so in southeastern parts of the area. Official updates to the drought status will not be made until Thursday, June 28.
The following table shows rainfall totals for June 2007 through the end of Saturday, June 23. It does not include any rainfall that fell on Sunday.
