"Joining competitors from the mainland, Hawai`i's high school students were the stars of the FIRST in Hawai`i Regional Robotics Competition this past weekend, the first competition of its kind held in the state.  

Community support for our students was overwhelming.  Volunteers from Hawai`i's business and education communities partnered with retired kupuna and college students to handle details like judging and robot inspections.

Mahalo to our community volunteers, professional mentors, sponsors, dedicated teachers and committed student competitors, who understand the value of building Hawai`i's future by promoting science, technology, engineering and math education.

I hope you will continue to support these innovative students as our teams prepare to compete at the Robotics National Championships in Atlanta, Georgia later this month.
