Swinging Bridge Dam (P-10482) Dam Safety Remediation Project
Project Description
The Swinging Bridge Project No. 10482-NY is licensed under the
jurisdiction of the FERC and owned and operated by Mirant, NY.
It is located on the Mongaup River upstream of its confluence
with the Delaware River, in Forestburgh, Sullivan County, New
York.
The project consists of three reservoirs. Water from Toronto Lake
and Cliff Lake, both located on an affluent of the Mongaup River,
flows into the major reservoir, Swinging Bridge, through a tunnel.
Power is generated by two power plants, both located at Swinging
Bridge Dam, and fed by separate and independent intakes and penstocks.
The two powerhouses have a rated generating capacity of 11.75
megawatts.
The dam at Swinging Bridge is a hydraulic-fill earth dam, 965
feet long x 135 feet high, traversed by a 10 foot diameter steel
penstock (pipeline, with a lower concrete tunnel, extending through
the base of the structure that feeds water to one of the two powerhouses.
The reservoir behind the dam comprises 1,000 acres of surface
area, and 32,000 acre-feet of storage volume at full reservoir
elevation 1070.0 feet. The crest elevation of the dam is 10 feet
higher at elevation 1080 feet.
