Technical Security Officers will hold responsibility for the configuration design, deployment and maintenance of a variety of security systems. Candidates will work regularly with Area and Regional Security Officers to coordinate overseas security programs. Regular foreign travel is required throughout the specialist's career, and candidates are expected to serve multiple overseas assignments. Applicants are also expected to engage in administrative duties, as assigned, and to work with and lift heavy equipment.
Minimum requirements include a minimum of an engineering degree or an associate's degree in electronics technology. In lieu of a degree, a certificate of completion for equivalent military, commercial or industry-recognized electronics school or training programs, or comprehensive work experience will be accepted. Candidates must also demonstrate proficiency in the field of electronics or an electromechanical environment. Knowledge of electronic or manual safe lock servicing, electricity, alarms and experience working as a locksmith are ideal.
All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. US citizenship is required.
To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.
