Health/Promotions
The
Health Promotions Program is intended to assist with optimizing mission
performance of the Coast Guard through enhanced physical, psychological,
spiritual and social well-being of its people through awareness, education,
and intervention methods.
The program is available to the following personnel:
- Active Duty Personnel and dependents
- Reserve Personnel and dependents
- Auxiliary personnel
- Full time Civil Service employees and their dependents
- MWR employees
We offer
support, guidance, information and referral resources in many areas,
including :
- Personal
Wellness profiles. (These can now be completed online)
- Cholesterol
Screenings
- Tobacco cessation
- Nutrition
- Stress Management
- Healthy Back
- Men's and Women's
Health issues
- Prevention of
Chronic Diseases
Health Promotion
Coordinator "C" School
The course is one week long and is held at various locations across the
Coast Guard. Typically the training will take place at one of the Coast
Guard training sites. All students must be prepared to exercise and attend
lectures throughout the week. Requirements to attend the training are:
- Be free from tobacco products for a
minimum of twelve months
- Be in compliance with Commandant's policy on
weight standards (except for civilian employees)
- Possess good communication and leadership
, including an approachable, empathic demeanor
- Be enthusiastic about wellness and
committed to the principles of health promotion
- Be either a non-user or responsible users
of alcohol
Statement of Confidentially. All
information collected from assessments and discussions between the Health
Promotion Manager or Unit Health Promotion Coordinator and you, the client,
will be kept confidential. Only
information collected which indicates a potential harm to self or someone
else will be forwarded to the proper support program i.e. EAP, FAS,
Chaplains, or Security. Information
collected may be used for statistical use or as training information as long
as personal identity is not comprised.
