About Northwest Region (NWR)

Northwest Region is responsible for carrying out environmental protection in the six northwest counties of Oregon (Clackamas, Clatsop, Columbia, Multnomah, Tillamook, and Washington). Staff also carry out some work in Yamhill County. NWR aims to use a coordinated approach that looks at all sources of pollution within a geographic area, Northwest Region staff work across air, water and land quality programs, and with local communities, to solve environmental problems. Northwest Region staff implement Water Quality, Air Quality, and Land Quality programs.

• Support community and public involvement in environmental protection through outreach, response to public queries and public involvement in proposed regulatory actions
• Developing and issuing air, water, solid and hazardous waste permits
• Protecting the public from exposure to asbestos and impacts from illegal burning activities
• Offering technical assistance to small businesses on environmental requirements
• Providing compliance and technical assistance to regulated facilities
• Verifying compliance and carrying out appropriate enforcement action to address environmental non-compliance
• Supervising environmental clean ups of contaminated property
• Providing oversight and technical assistance to prevent or address leaks from underground storage tanks
