McMinnville soldier killed in Iraq had plans to be U.S. Marshall
Spc. Michelle R. Ring, 24, of Martin, Tenn., died July 5 of wounds sustained from enemy mortar fire in Baghdad, Iraq. She was assigned to the 92d Military Police Battalion, 89 Military Police Brigade, Fort Benning, Ga.
Michelle Raylene Ring (Stearns) was born on July 2, 1981, in Portland, Ore. to John and Shirley Stearns. She was the youngest of three girls. She grew up living in Oregon, Kentucky and Alaska, but her hometown is McMinnville, Ore.
Her family said Michelle loved the outdoors and was never afraid to try something new or challenging. She joined the Army to better her life and the life of her two sons. She was proud to serve her country and had just recently re-enlisted to continue serving. She had goals of obtaining a college degree and becoming a U.S. Marshall.
Michelle's family and friends said they are all proud of the accomplishments she made both in and out of the Army. She thought the world of her boys. She was a friend to all and will be forever missed.
Michelle is survived by her parents, John and Shirley Stearns of Oregon; her sisters, Karen of Alaska and Marilyn of Oregon; and her two sons, Marc of Oregon and Brandon of Tennessee.
Michelle's family said, "We are at peace knowing that she is with many loving family and friends in heaven and will be waiting there for us."
