Summit to focus on issues facing military members
The Oregon National Guard will host a State Reintegration Summit Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. in the Anderson Readiness Center.
The summit brings together dozens of local, state and national organizations from both the public and private sector. Though the agencies have varying areas of expertise, they share the common purpose of helping members of the US military and veterans with the unique challenges related to military service.
Governor Theodore R. Kulongoski will deliver the opening remarks. Participants in the summit will then receive an update on subjects such as traumatic brain injury (TBI), post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and returning from deployments.
The summit will then break into four groups focusing on four key areas: employment, health care, family issues, and education. The goal of the breakout sessions is to identify issues, share solutions, network with others, and share successes. The groups will then reassemble to cover key points from each breakout session.
After the governor gives the opening remarks, TRIWEST, the organization that administers the military health care program TriCare, will present a $30,000 check to the Oregon Emergency Relief Fund. The fund provides financial assistance to members of the Guard and their families in times of need.
