Response to BRAC Commission decision

Statement from Major General Raymond F. Rees, Adjutant General, Oregon National Guard:

"The BRAC Commission had the daunting task of reviewing hundreds of recommendations from the Department of Defense as well as countless arguments favoring and opposing each of those recommendations. Their efforts and professionalism certainly should be commended."

"We provided the BRAC Commission our perspective at a hearing in June, and several elected officials and private citizens offered their insights as well. We're pleased with the decision made by the commission to keep the 142nd Fighter Wing in Portland -- it's a clear sign that security in the Pacific Northwest is a vital concern."

"It's important to note that the BRAC process continues. From here, the President must decide to accept the conclusion of the Commission and forward them to Congress, or reject the recommendations and have the Commission re-evaluate their decisions."
