UPDATE on rescue Operation in Skamania County, Wash.
The crew of the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter from the Army Aviation Support Facility in Salem, Ore., Army National Guard are currently enroute to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland, Ore. They were successful in the rescue of a 39 year old male who had slipped down an enbankment on the Wind River.
 
The victim has suffered a compound fracture of the leg which is bleeding and also a possible head trauma. They are expected to arrive at Legacy Emmanuel at approximately 9:10 p.m. tonight. 
 
The request for assistance was initiated by Skamania County officials, then directed through Washington Emergency Management to Oregon Emergency Management.
 
The four man crew of the helicopter consisted of the pilot, co-pilot, crew chief and flight medic.
 
The medic was dropped on the hoist down to the victim where he stabilized the injuries, loaded him onto the litter and then was hoisted into the helicopter. The Blackhawk is equipped with medical supplies and equipment.
