The Regulatory Program consists of four program areas: Dairy Microbiology, Shellfish, Pesticide Residue Testing and Food Microbiology.
Dairy Microbiology
Microbiologists analyze milk samples for microorganisms.
Dairy Microbiology analyzes and evaluates microbial activity in milk and dairy products for the ODA´s Food Safety Division. Samples are tested to meet the requirements of the Interstate Milk Shippers (IMS) program that allows milk to move across state lines. The lab is certified by the FDA as the central reference dairy lab for the state of Oregon.
Food Microbiology
Technician prepares media for microbiological analyses.
Food Microbiology analyzes and evaluates non-dairy food products for the presence of pathogens and/or indicators of spoilage. A USDA accredited egg and poultry laboratory.
Pesticide Residue
Technician performing pesticide analysis.
Pesticide Residue analyzes a multitude of samples for a wide variety of pesticides. Sample types include water, produce, grains, soil, animal tissue, vacuum bag contents, pieces of clothing or swabs.
Shellfish
Analyst prepares shellfish for analysis.
Shellfish conducts routine shellfish testing for Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning Toxin (PSP), Domoic Acid, Vibrio parahemolyticus and fecal coliforms. Testing is cyclical with increased monitoring for PSP and Vibrio during the warm summer months. Domoic Acid testing is performed year-round. The lab is certified by the FDA as the central reference shellfish lab for the state of Oregon.
